The leading comic actor of the Lord Chamberlain's Men. He created the roles of Bottom, Dogberry, and Peter. Famous for his jigs, he left the company in 1599 and morris-danced from London to Norwich. His name appears in the original quartos of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Much Ado About Nothing.
